Dave Cannada Memorial Scholarship Fund
Dave Cannada graduated from Murrah High School in 1968. During his time at Murrah, Dave was Student Body President, a scholar, an athlete, and a role model to all of his classmates. Dave died of leukemia in 1970. The Dave Cannada Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by Dave’s classmates to honor Dave’s memory, and to provide financial assistance to students whose academic and leadership skills mirror those of Dave. The scholarship is available to students graduating from Murrah High School who plan to attend a four year college in Mississippi. Requirements are a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, ACT score of at least 25 and demonstrated strong leadership skills through athletics, church or ministry involvement, civic endeavors and/or student government.

The Aura Neely-Gary Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 in memory of Mrs. Gary by her family. Mrs. Gary’s strong commitment to education and self-improvement was the impetus for her family’s desire to establish this scholarship. The family wanted to honor her memory by providing a college scholarship to a person whose secondary school education may have been interrupted for various reasons or those who require assistance to continue their education. Magnolia Bar Foundation Scholarship Fund
The Magnolia Bar Foundation established the scholarship fund at CFGJ in 2012. This fund will administer three separate scholarships.
MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION
Three scholarship awards will be given to high school seniors who compete and are determined to be the best senior advocates. The scholarship award amounts are $700 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place and $300 for 3rd place. The top senior advocate will receive an award based on his/her rankings. The award winners must also show proof of enrollment in a college or university. YOUNG/HALL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is named after Jack Young, Sr. and Carsie Hall who were two of the cofounders of the Magnolia Bar Association. The scholarship of $1,000 is to be awarded to a second or third year law student who is enrolled at Mississippi College School of Law or the University of Mississippi School of Law. The award is based upon the student’s academic achievement and need. . LEONARD MCCLELLAN SCHOLARSHIP
Leonard was a champion of social justice long before becoming a lawyer. This scholarship will honor a senior who graduates from a private or public high school in Mississippi who has shown a strong interest in and is enthusiastic about the science of jurisprudence.
Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4 point scale and demonstrate a need for financial aid in order to attend college. The award will be based on a combination of need and merit. Applicants will be asked to submit the application form and letters of recommendation which should include a statement of the student’s academic and career goals and how the scholarship will help to achieve such goals.
One annual scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded beginning in spring 2014.
Bill Hunsberger Scholarship Fund
William W. Hunsberger, publisher of The Clarion-Ledger newspaper and a board member of the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson, died of a heart attack in 2004. In his honor, his family and friends established the Bill Hunsberger Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students studying the programs at the universities attended by his three daughters. The award rotates annually among a journalism major at the University of Southern Mississippi, a journalism major at the University of Mississippi, and a political science major involved with student media at Mississippi State University. Applicants must be full-time, female students entering their junior or senior years of study.

Rick Ross Madison Avenue Upper Elementary Honorary Scholarship
To honor Rick Ross, their Principal, the PTO of the Madison Avenue Upper Elementary School decided to harness their resources and focus on instilling the importance of higher education in the students at their school. Preference will be given to students who otherwise have little or no other scholarship funds available to them. Students who have shown above average achievement; who are active in the various clubs, activities, and organizations of Madison Central; and who may have limited opportunities are eligible. The scholarship is not based on financial need but does require that the recipient has attended all years of school in the Madison County School District with the 3rd through the 5th grade exclusively at Madison Avenue Upper Elementary. Other criteria are a 2.33 or better grade average, 60 percentile or better on the ACT or SAT, and a written essay. Recipients are also required to attend a trade school, college or university in Mississippi.

Mae Meriwether Zifcak Girl Scout Scholarship Fund
Named in honor of the longtime director of the Middle Mississippi Girl Scout Council, this scholarship fund was created in 2001 to assist girls involved in the local council with their post-secondary education, primarily at trade schools.

Although different scholarships have different restrictions, awards generally apply to direct college expenses, such as tuition, fees and books. Monies received for tuition, fees and books may not incur tax liability while monies applied to room and board may be considered taxable income. The recipient is responsible for any tax liability incurred as a result of this award.
