Grants

Second graders at Davis Magnet School work with writer Sarah Campbell and student teacher Richard Jones as they illustrate books. Davis received a grant to support the Creative Arts Across the Curriculum project, where students in all thirteen classrooms at Davis (from kindergarten through fifth grade) participated in workshops with artists (writer, actors, storyteller, papermaker, mixed media artist, and illustrator) where they learned creative writing, book publishing, design, electronic publishing, drawing, and collage-making.

Several types of grants are awarded each year by the Foundation. Some are approved through the Foundation's annual competitive grant cycle, which requires submission of an application. Others are in the form of scholarships. Several non-profit organizations have funds at the Foundation which benefit their particular organization. Also, donor-advised funds make grants to area charities at the recommendation of the donor who established the fund (donor-advisors may click on the "Donor Suggestion Form" link on the left-hand side of this page to access and print out a donor suggestion form for their funds). In addition, special funds exist, such as the JPS Education Foundation Trust, a $1 million endowment which funds classroom projects in the Jackson Public School District.

Those organizations which received grants in the 2006-07 fiscal year, and the amounts they received, were as follows:
